Objectives:
The objective of this lab is to learn how to set up a network using sub netting.
We drew out the topology for a five computer network using two switches and a router.
Equipment List:
We used the lab computers, two switches, a router, cabling, and windows server software.
Notes and Observations:
I did not take any notes, however I observed in our team how to use IP Addresses and sub nets to interconnect computers. Then using ping we tested the connections. I also observed how to diagnose connection problems.
Diagrams, Flowcharts, and figures:
The diagram is the topology including IP Addresses and is on the bottom of this report.
References: I referred to our text book, Networking, by, Jeffrey S. Beasley and my partners.
Questions:
Feedback and comments.
In this lab we actually used cabling and connected each computer either to a switch or the router. We opened up Putty and entered a series of commands to get the router to speak to each computer. Then we pinged each other and the router to check connectivity. Once all computers could receive and send a ping to each other we knew we had hooked it up properly.
Conclusions: In completing this lab I have concluded that I can now hook up a small network using sub net addresses. I know where each cable goes and how to speak to the router and get each computer on the network. This lab was by-far my favorite this year and the most useful.
